A pregnant woman, Msendoo Iorlumun, has given birth to twin boys in a bush in Benue State after she went into labour while attempting to reach a healthcare centre.
The incident occurred on Friday as the woman was reportedly trekking from Jotar to Abaki Health Clinic in Mbangur to seek medical attention.
An eyewitness, Baba Igba Igba, said the expectant mother had set out for the facility when labour suddenly began along the way.
He explained that she became too weak to continue the journey, with the clinic still a considerable distance ahead.
“She couldn’t go any further and had to stop by the roadside,” the eyewitness said.
The woman subsequently delivered the twins near St. Pius Catholic Church in Abaki Mbangur without immediate medical support.
Despite the ordeal, both the mother and her newborn babies were said to be in good condition, bringing relief to residents of the area.
The development has again underscored the challenges of accessing healthcare in rural communities, where long distances and poor infrastructure often hinder timely medical intervention.
Residents who reacted to the incident described it as both distressing and remarkable, while calling for improved healthcare services in the community.
