Tragedy struck in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State after a 17-year-old boy, Ishaku Idriss, died from injuries sustained during a violent altercation at a wedding ceremony.
The incident, which occurred on March 31 at about 1pm, involved youths from Dagare and Yabel communities and reportedly escalated into a full-blown fight.
Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, disclosed that the confrontation began after a disagreement that quickly spiralled out of control.
According to sources, a 16-year-old, Adamu Suleh, allegedly struck Idriss with a stick following an instigation linked to one Shuaibu Yusuf, triggering a chain of violent reactions.
As tensions heightened, the victim was said to have fought back, further intensifying the clash.
During the fracas, another teenager, Usman Inusa, reportedly hit Idriss on the head, causing him to collapse.
The injured boy was first taken to the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum before being referred to the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital for further medical attention.
He was, however, pronounced dead in the early hours of April 4, 2026.
Police sources confirmed that the matter was reported at the Potiskum Police Division by the village head of Jumma’a Bogocho, Ahmadu Yusuf.
Authorities have arrested individuals connected to the incident, while investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal clash.
Attempts to get a response from the state Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, were unsuccessful as of press time.
The development has heightened concerns over recurring youth violence, particularly at social gatherings, amid calls for stricter community-level conflict management.
