President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of Nigerian soldiers during a terrorist attack on a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State.
The attack, carried out by suspected members of Boko Haram, targeted the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI in the early hours of Thursday. The assault reportedly occurred around 12:30 a.m., according to defence authorities.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president extended his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and the Nigerian military, urging them to remain strong despite the loss.
Tinubu praised the bravery of the troops, noting that they fought gallantly to repel the attackers and protect nearby communities from being overrun.
He described the counterattack by insurgents as a sign of desperation, highlighting ongoing military operations that have reportedly neutralised several terrorist fighters and commanders.
The president paid tribute to the fallen personnel, including those under the leadership of Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, describing them as heroes whose sacrifices would not be forgotten.
He also called on Nigerians and the media to support the armed forces in the fight against insurgency, cautioning against narratives that could weaken troop morale.
Tinubu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the military through improved equipment and enhanced welfare, while also pledging continued collaboration with the government and people of Borno State to restore lasting peace.
