The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has conducted state congresses in Ogun State and Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections, but internal divisions led to parallel leadership in Ogun.
In Ogun State, two factions held separate congresses, each claiming legitimacy despite aligning with the party’s national leadership under David Mark.
One faction, backed by a national committee, held its congress at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta and produced Emmanuel Famojuro as state chairman. He pledged unity and grassroots mobilisation, particularly focusing on youth and women.
However, another faction led by Femi Soluade conducted a separate congress at the party secretariat and returned its executives unopposed, insisting it remains the legitimate leadership.
The crisis follows accusations of mismanagement and internal disagreements, highlighting ongoing tensions within the party in the state.
Meanwhile, in Abia State, the party held a unified congress in Umuahia, where Kalu-Kalu Agu emerged as chairman through a consensus process. He pledged to reconcile aggrieved members and strengthen the party ahead of upcoming elections.
The developments reflect broader internal realignments within the ADC as it prepares for the 2027 polls.
