Troops of the joint task force under Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a 15-year-old suspect linked to a deadly insurgent attack in Borno State.
The suspect, identified as Tijjani, was reportedly apprehended on Sunday while on his way to buy food for members of his group.
Military sources say he is connected to the attack that resulted in the death of Oseni Braimah, a brigadier-general, along with three other soldiers.
Braimah, who commanded the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation Hadin Kai, was killed on Thursday when suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked a military base.
In a video circulating online, the teenager said he was arrested in Ngamdu, Borno State. Speaking in Hausa, he claimed he took part in attacks in Benisheik and Ngamdu.
According to him, the group had moved from Jilli before the attack and later returned there. He also alleged that he was sent with ₦850,000 to collect logistics when he was intercepted by troops.
The suspect added that he left other fighters behind in Jilli but does not know what has happened to them since.
As of now, authorities have not released an official statement regarding the arrest.
