A Federal High Court in Kaduna has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the sum of ₦200 million over alleged corruption charges filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The presiding judge, Justice Rilwanu Aikawa, ruled that the defendant must remain in ICPC custody pending the full satisfaction of strict bail conditions.
As part of the conditions, El-Rufai is required to provide two sureties in like sum. One must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 15, while the other must be a recognised traditional ruler. Both sureties are also mandated to deposit their international passports with the court.
Additionally, the court barred El-Rufai from making public statements concerning the case and ordered him to attend all court proceedings.
The ruling follows his arraignment by the ICPC on multiple charges, including alleged abuse of office and fraud. Although the charges were later amended, the case remains active, with proceedings ongoing in both federal and state courts.
El-Rufai’s legal counsel declined to comment after the hearing, but his son confirmed that bail had been granted. However, the former governor will remain in custody until all bail conditions are met.
The development underscores the intensifying legal challenges facing the former governor as he battles multiple cases across different courts.
