The Nigeria Customs Service has celebrated a major milestone as its first female pilot, Nafisat Balogun, obtained a commercial multi-engine pilot licence in the United States.
The announcement was made in Abuja by the Service’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada, who described the feat as a landmark achievement.
He said the accomplishment underscores growing opportunities within the agency, especially in specialised roles traditionally dominated by men.
Balogun, a Superintendent of Customs, was honoured by the Nigeria Customs Technical Hangar Service in recognition of her success.
At the event, the Managing Director, Kuhi Mbaya, praised her determination, noting her transition from cabin crew to a fully certified commercial pilot.
He added that her achievement reflects progress within the Service and serves as encouragement for more women to pursue technical careers.
Mbaya also lauded the Comptroller-General, Bashir Adeniyi, for supporting inclusivity and professional advancement.
In her remarks, Balogun appreciated the support she received and reaffirmed her commitment to serving with dedication and professionalism.
