The Plateau State Government has filed terrorism-related charges against five suspects arrested by the Department of State Services over the killing of more than 30 people in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.
The attack, which occurred in March, targeted a popular bar in the community, leaving several people dead and many others injured. The charges were filed last Friday, shortly after President Bola Tinubu visited Plateau State and assured residents that those responsible would be brought to justice.
According to court documents, three of the suspects — Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar, also known as Auwalu Dogo, and Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as Yaroro — were charged with conspiracy to commit terrorism and related offences. They were reportedly arrested between April 3 and April 10.
Another suspect, Adamu Isa Alhassan, was charged with criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, unlawful possession of firearms, and illegal dealing in arms and ammunition.
The charges were filed by Plateau State Attorney General, Philemon Daffi, who said the offences violate Sections 269 and 270 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law, 2017.
Court filings allege that the accused conspired to plan, organise, and fund the Angwan Rukuba attack, which led to the death of over 30 residents.
Alhassan was also accused of participating in armed attacks in several communities in Riyom and Jos South local government areas between 2025 and early 2026, resulting in multiple deaths.
Following the incident, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said security agencies were pursuing the perpetrators and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through sustained security operations.
