A tragic incident has been reported at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, where a 400-level medical student, Adewole Emmanuel, passed away after suddenly collapsing moments before his final examination.
The news of his death was confirmed in a statement released by the Ife University Medical Students Association (IFUMSA) on April 22, 2026. The association described Emmanuel as a dedicated student, a valued colleague, and a promising young individual whose life was cut short unexpectedly.
According to the statement, his passing has deeply affected members of the medical community, who remembered him as a supportive friend and an important part of his class. IFUMSA also urged the public to avoid speculation and respect the privacy of his family during this difficult time.
A fellow student, who spoke anonymously, revealed that the incident occurred while students were preparing to sit for their final examination. Emmanuel reportedly collapsed suddenly and could not be revived.
The source noted that he had not shown any signs of illness prior to the incident, making the situation even more shocking to colleagues and staff.
The university community has since been thrown into mourning as students and staff grapple with the sudden loss of one of their own.
