Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday night hosted a state banquet in honour of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, praising his rise in the force as a testament to discipline and service.
The event, held at the State House, Marina, was attended by top government officials, security chiefs and other dignitaries.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Sanwo-Olu described the police chief as a true son of Lagos, noting that his formative years in the state played a significant role in shaping his character and career.
He said Disu’s journey through the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force reflected commitment, integrity and dedication to public service.
The governor recalled the IGP’s early life in Lagos, highlighting his education at Lagos State University and upbringing on Lagos Island as key influences in his development.
Sanwo-Olu also referenced Disu’s tenure as head of the Rapid Response Squad, where he was credited with strengthening security operations and boosting public confidence.

According to the governor, the IGP’s career trajectory underscores the values of hard work and excellence, adding that Lagos remains proud of his achievements at the national level.
Disu, born on April 13, 1966, began his education at Mayflower Junior School in Ogun State and later attended St. Gregory’s College, Lagos, before obtaining a degree in English Education from Lagos State University in 1990.
He was appointed Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu in February 2026 following the exit of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun.
The banquet, the governor noted, was organised to celebrate service, leadership and the enduring contributions of Lagos indigenes to national development.
