Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed confidence that the state will attain modern infrastructure status before the end of his first term in office.
The governor made the declaration on Tuesday while inspecting several ongoing projects across Edo South, particularly in Benin City. He said his administration has recorded significant progress in road construction and erosion control initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and easing transportation.
During the tour, Okpebholo visited major projects including the Ekiuwa–University of Benin Road (also known as Temboga Road Extension), Oba Erediauwa Road off Upper Mission Road, the Ikpoba Hill Flyover and associated erosion control works linking Obaseki Street and Agbor Road to the Ikpoba River, as well as the Adesuwa Flyover along Sapele Road.
Speaking at the Adesuwa Flyover site, the governor noted that parts of the road had already been asphalted and assured residents that further progress would be visible in the coming weeks.
He also inspected other developments such as Temboga Road, Uteh Palace Road, Ramat Park, and an ongoing stormwater drainage project stretching several kilometres into the Ikpoba River.
According to him, the pace and quality of work across the various sites demonstrate his administration’s commitment to transforming Edo into a modern and well-structured urban state. He stated that if the current momentum continues, the goal would be achieved within the first four years of his tenure.
Okpebholo expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for what he described as consistent support for Edo State, adding that the federal government’s policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda have contributed to ongoing development efforts in the state.
He said collaboration with the federal government would remain key to sustaining progress and improving living conditions for residents.
Residents of the affected communities reportedly welcomed the governor during the inspection, expressing satisfaction with the rehabilitation of previously neglected roads and the ongoing erosion control projects in their areas.
The governor was accompanied by members of his administration during the tour.
