Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Timi Frank, has urged authorities to ensure the safety and fair treatment of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, amid reports surrounding his detention.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Frank expressed concern over claims about El-Rufai’s treatment while in custody, calling on security agencies and judicial authorities to uphold due process and protect his rights at all times.
He also called for the release of businessman Tunde Ayeni, insisting that his case should be handled transparently and in accordance with the rule of law.
Frank maintained that anti-corruption campaigns must remain fair, balanced, and free from political persecution, warning against using state institutions to intimidate individuals with opposing political views.
The former APC spokesman questioned what he described as selective treatment of politically exposed persons under investigation, asking whether El-Rufai was the only former governor facing scrutiny in the country.
He further urged agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to act in ways that would strengthen public confidence and avoid deepening political tension.
Frank also raised concerns about election credibility and the treatment of opposition figures ahead of future elections, stressing that democratic stability depends on transparency, justice, and respect for human rights.
He called on the international community and global human rights organisations to closely monitor political and judicial developments in Nigeria.
