The Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has honoured 17 police officers killed in a terrorist attack in Yobe State, describing them as heroes who died in active service to the nation.
The officers, members of the Police Mobile Force, were killed during an attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area, on May 8, 2026.
Speaking at a tribute ceremony held despite heavy rainfall, the IGP said the fallen officers represented true patriotism and sacrifice, noting that they died while defending Nigeria against terrorism and other violent crimes.
He assured that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to fighting terrorism, kidnapping, and insurgency across the country, despite the risks faced by personnel in the North-East.
