A chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shamsudeen Oladiti, popularly known as “Shamelon,” has been arraigned before a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja over the alleged killing of a dispatch rider, Ramon Imam.
The 55-year-old defendant was brought before Justice Olawale Alebiosu on charges bordering on involuntary manslaughter, conspiracy, and attempted murder filed by the Lagos State Government.
According to the prosecution counsel, Jubril Kareem, the alleged offences occurred between August 27 and September 17, 2025, on Lewis Street, Lagos Island.
The prosecution alleged that Oladiti caused the death of Imam on September 17, 2025, at about 3 p.m. by allegedly assaulting him with repeated blows to the head and face.
Kareem further told the court that the defendant also allegedly attacked another individual, Samuel Omale, on August 27, 2025, inflicting serious injuries during the assault.
The offences are said to contravene Sections 224, 411, and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Oladiti, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Following his plea, defence counsel Olanrewaju Ajanaku urged the court to grant his client bail.
While the prosecution did not oppose the application, it requested verification of the defendant’s medical condition.
Justice Alebiosu subsequently directed the controller of the Kirikiri correctional facility to confirm Oladiti’s health status through the Lagos State Government Hospital.
The court adjourned the matter until June 15, 2026, for commencement of trial.
