Suspected gunmen have abducted the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Grace Ogunleye, along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday while the council official was returning from an official engagement within the state.
Sources disclosed that Ogunleye’s vehicle was later found abandoned by the roadside, while her whereabouts remained unknown as of Thursday.
Efforts to reach her through her mobile phone proved unsuccessful as the line was reportedly switched off.
It was gathered that the vice chairman had earlier visited the Ilejemeje Local Government Secretariat before heading towards Ido Ekiti when she was attacked.
Confirming the abduction, the Director of Information and Civic Orientation for Ilejemeje Local Government, Falade Sunday, said security agencies had been informed and were already working to secure her release.
He assured residents that authorities were intensifying efforts to rescue the abducted official and arrest those behind the attack.
The spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, also confirmed the incident, stating that more details would be made available later.
The development has heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of Ekiti State, with residents urging the government and security agencies to strengthen efforts against rising kidnapping cases.
