Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has vowed to stop landlords from demanding one or two years’ rent in advance if he becomes President in 2027.
Sowore made the promise in a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, where he said his administration would protect tenants from what he described as exploitation in the housing sector.
According to him, no landlord or landlady would be allowed to demand more than three months’ rent at once under his government.
He added that he would sign an executive order on his first day in office to enforce the policy nationwide.
The activist’s statement comes amid growing complaints over the rising cost of rent and the heavy financial pressure faced by tenants across major cities in Nigeria.
Sowore also shared the message with the hashtags #Sowore2027 and #TakeItBack as discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gain attention.
