Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially endorsed Bimbo Adekanmbi, the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), as his preferred successor for the 2027 governorship election.
Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during the official unveiling of Adekanmbi as the APM consensus candidate in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The governor’s endorsement comes amid rising political discussions following his recent announcement to contest the 2027 presidential election.
At the joint mega rally organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APM, Makinde appeared alongside Adekanmbi and other party leaders before a large crowd of supporters.
Speaking at the event, the governor praised the current political alliance in Oyo State and hinted that the collaboration could eventually extend beyond the state level.
“You have tasted Omituntun 1.0 and 2.0. This is Omituntun 3.0,” Makinde declared as he raised Adekanmbi’s hand before supporters at the rally.
Makinde also advised Adekanmbi to avoid inheriting his political battles and instead focus on building an independent leadership style while improving on the achievements of the present administration.
“I have told Bimbo, don’t inherit my enemies; chart your own path. I’m only human and I make mistakes like everyone else,” the governor said.
“He should improve on the good things we have done for the benefit of the people of Oyo State.”
The endorsement is expected to shape political alignments and succession debates in Oyo State as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
