The faction of the Labour Party led by Julius Abure has adopted Kennedy Ahanotu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, who stated that Ahanotu emerged through a consensus primary process. The result was announced in Abuja by Ayodele Olorunfemi.
The faction also disclosed plans to field governorship candidates in 30 states and has concluded the selection of candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly. According to party officials, the complete list of candidates will be forwarded to Independent National Electoral Commission in line with electoral guidelines.
In his acceptance speech, Ahanotu described his emergence as a collective mandate to unite the party and provide Nigerians with a credible alternative leadership option.
He pledged to focus on economic growth, quality education, security, justice, infrastructure development, and power sector reforms. According to him, his administration would prioritize production-driven economic policies, investment in education, improved school infrastructure, teacher development, and the integration of technology into learning.
Ahanotu also promised major reforms in the power sector, including decentralised electricity generation, support for renewable energy investments, and improved transportation infrastructure to boost industrial growth and economic competitiveness.
Meanwhile, another faction of the Labour Party led by Nenadi Usman has announced Chibuzo Okereke as its own presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
The development highlights the ongoing leadership dispute within the Labour Party as both factions continue preparations for the next presidential race.
