The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash Amupitan, is leading a Nigerian delegation to the inaugural International Election Observation Programme organised in the South Korea as part of efforts to strengthen electoral administration and governance.
The programme, which focuses on the country’s nationwide simultaneous local government elections, is taking place in Seoul from May 29 to June 5, 2026.
Organised by the National Election Commission, the initiative brings together election management bodies, electoral experts and international observers from different parts of the world to study and exchange ideas on election conduct and democratic governance.
Members of the Nigerian delegation include National Commissioner, May Agbamuche-Mbu; the Chief Technical Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Dimis Mai-Lafia; and the Director of Training, Binta Kasim Mohammed.
As part of the programme, the delegation observed early voting activities at a polling centre in the Mia-dong district of Seoul, gaining direct insight into South Korea’s electoral processes and operational procedures.
The electoral body said participation in the programme would deepen its understanding of emerging global trends in election administration, observation and governance, while supporting ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and improve electoral processes in Nigeria.
