El-Rufai Resists, Escapes Arrest Attempt at Abuja Airport Upon Returning from Cairo

On Thursday, security personnel reportedly attempted to detain former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja shortly after his arrival from Cairo, Egypt.

This information was communicated by his Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, in a post on his verified X account shortly after the incident transpired.

Adekeye indicated that the operatives approached El-Rufai as he was disembarking from his flight and expressed their intention to take him into custody.

However, the former governor allegedly refused to comply, maintaining that he would not respond to their request without a formal invitation.

“Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir El-Rufai upon his arrival from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to accompany them without a formal invitation,” the statement said.

Adekeye further claimed that during the incident, the operatives confiscated El-Rufai’s passport from one of his aides.
