Channels TV cameraman dies nine days after fatal road crash

Kani Ben, a cameraman with Channels Television, has passed away nine days after sustaining injuries in a motor accident, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, has confirmed.

NUJ State Chairman, Umar Said, announced the death on Sunday, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the journalist.

“Mr Ben was a devoted cameraman whose life was tragically cut short following a road accident while on assignment in Bauchi,” Said said.

The incident occurred while Ben was reporting on the commissioning and handover of projects executed by the North-East Development Commission, alongside the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State also mourned the death of the journalist.

In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the governor described the passing as “heartbreaking” and paid tribute to Ben’s commitment to his professional duties.

Mohammed praised the late cameraman for his courage, dedication, and sense of responsibility, which he displayed until his final moments.

He extended condolences to Ben’s family, Channels Television, the NUJ, and the entire media community, praying for strength and comfort during this difficult time.

“The government stands in solidarity with journalists and continues to support those who risk their lives to keep Nigerians informed,” the governor added.
