The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has dismissed the state’s Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, from his position with immediate effect.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Tofa.
According to the statement, the action forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to overhaul the state civil service to promote efficiency, discipline and improved service delivery across public institutions.
The government explained that the decision was taken as part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening the operations of the civil service and ensuring better performance within government establishments.
Governor Yusuf, however, expressed appreciation to the former Head of Service for his dedication and contributions to the development of the state during his time in office, wishing him success in his future pursuits.
Following the development, the governor directed the Permanent Secretary in charge of Administration and General Services at the Cabinet Office, Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, to take over the position in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Head of Service.
He also instructed Musa to hand over the responsibilities of the office to the acting Head of Service on or before Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The change in the civil service leadership comes amid recent political developments in the state after Governor Yusuf defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Observers note that the political shift has sparked a series of adjustments within the state government, as the administration moves to realign its political and administrative structures while pursuing reforms in the civil service.
