VIDEO: Outrage as women prevent DisCo staff from cutting electricity supply

A viral video has shown a dramatic confrontation between a group of women and officials of an electricity distribution company attempting to disconnect power in their community.

The clip, which began circulating widely on Friday, captured the women protesting what they described as prolonged darkness despite repeated billing.

Voicing their frustration in Yoruba, the residents accused the company of failing to supply electricity for about three months while still making moves to cut their connection.

They decried the situation, saying the persistent blackout had made life difficult for residents, with some forced to stay outdoors at night due to the heat.

The women were seen surrounding a ladder brought by the officials, effectively blocking access to an electric pole and stopping any attempt to disconnect the supply.

The standoff intensified when one of the workers reportedly tried to push past a woman, triggering a swift reaction from others who rallied around her in protest.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians praising the women’s bold stance against what they termed injustice.

In a separate but related video, a man was also seen challenging the officials, expressing anger over the lack of power and economic hardship while disconnection efforts continued.

The development comes amid ongoing complaints of inadequate electricity supply nationwide, with the Minister of Power recently apologising to citizens and promising improvements in the coming weeks.
