Embattled Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan officially returned to the red chamber on Tuesday as the Nigerian Senate resumed plenary after a 10-week recess.
The Legal Observer recalls that the upper legislative chamber had on July 24, 2025, adjourned plenary for its annual recess, initially scheduled to resume on September 23, 2025. However, the session reconvened on October 7, marking the end of the extended break.
Tuesday’s sitting was presided over by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, as Senate President Godswill Akpabio was absent during the resumption.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, returning to the chamber for the first time since her six-month suspension, was notably present among her colleagues. Her return marks a key moment in what has been one of the most contentious disciplinary cases in the 10th Senate.
Despite Akpabio’s absence, attendance at the plenary was strong, signaling a full return to legislative business after the long recess.
In a symbolic gesture of international solidarity, several senators were seen wearing Palestinian colours and attire, expressing support for the Free Palestine movement amid ongoing global tensions.
