A faction of the African Democratic Congress led by Nafiu Bala has announced Prof Chris Uba as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The development comes days after Atiku Abubakar emerged as the presidential candidate of another ADC faction following a primary election in which he defeated Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
Speaking during the presentation of candidates in Abuja, Bala said the party’s presidential ticket was zoned to Southern Nigeria in line with principles of equity, fairness, inclusiveness, and federal character.
According to him, three aspirants initially purchased nomination forms: Dr. Bashir Sani, Prince Williams Charles, and Prof. Chris Uba. He explained that the party adopted a consensus arrangement, leading to the withdrawal of the other two aspirants in support of Uba.
Bala stated that the consensus method was adopted in accordance with provisions of the Electoral Act, allowing political parties to select candidates through consensus. As a result, Uba was declared the party’s sole presidential candidate and flagbearer for the 2027 election.
The faction also unveiled 29 governorship candidates from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The announcement further highlights the leadership dispute within the ADC, with separate factions currently laying claim to the party’s structure and presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
