VIDEO: Tinubu hosts new Benin Republic president Wadagni in Lagos

President Bola Tinubu on Monday received the newly inaugurated President of Benin Republic, Romuald Wadagni, at his residence in Lagos.

The visit, described as private, came weeks after Wadagni assumed office as the leader of the neighbouring West African nation.

Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the development in a post on his official X handle.

A video shared alongside the post showed the Beninese leader arriving at the residence and being accompanied by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, before meeting the Nigerian President.

Although details of their discussions were not made public, the meeting underscores the close diplomatic and bilateral ties between Nigeria and Benin Republic.

Wadagni recently took over leadership of the francophone nation, succeeding former President Patrice Talon after serving as the country’s Minister of Finance.

His emergence as president marked a significant transition in Benin Republic’s political landscape, with regional observers closely watching the direction of his administration.

The visit to Lagos is among the early diplomatic engagements undertaken by the new Beninese leader since assuming office.
