A member of the House of Representatives representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, has announced that he will not seek re-election in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Sunday, Dasuki described his decision as an act of personal sacrifice aimed at creating opportunities for younger Nigerians to take up leadership roles.
He explained that the choice was made after wide consultations with his political associates, family members, and conscience.
“I have decided not to seek re-election to the House of Representatives in 2027. This is not born out of fatigue or disillusionment, but a higher calling — a decision rooted in belief, in hope, and in a future we all desire to see,” Dasuki said.
The lawmaker emphasized that meaningful progress in Nigeria requires deliberate acts of sacrifice from those in leadership positions, stressing the importance of mentoring and giving room for younger generations to lead.
Hon. Dasuki, who first held elective office in 2011, has served in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, the State Executive Council, and currently represents his constituency in the National Assembly.
His decision has drawn commendations from several political observers who view it as a rare example of selflessness in Nigerian politics.
