Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has accused Senator Ned Nwoko and the Nigeria Police Force of allegedly plotting to intimidate members of actress Regina Daniels’ family through arbitrary arrests and coercion.
In a public statement on Friday, Sowore claimed that the senator and police authorities are “collaborating to compel” Regina’s mother and other relatives to issue a public apology and facilitate her “forced return” to a rehabilitation centre in Abuja.
“After our intervention this morning, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko and his police collaborators have commenced threatening Regina Daniels’ family members, insisting they apologise and facilitate her return to rehab in Abuja,” Sowore alleged. “He is also planning to arraign her mother and summarily commit her to prison.”
The activist condemned what he described as a “cash-and-carry” culture within the police hierarchy and criticised the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, calling his appointment “illegal” and his leadership “enabling impunity.”
This follows Sowore’s earlier claims that Senator Nwoko and the Inspector-General conspired to unlawfully detain Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, Regina Daniels’ younger brother, at the Keffi Correctional Facility in Nasarawa State.
