Truck Driver Arrested After Policeman Dies in Abuja Road Crash

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a truck driver, Salman Usman, following a collision that killed one police officer and injured another on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the crash occurred around 2:20 p.m. along the Sani Abacha Expressway near the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja. Preliminary investigations revealed that a mixer truck driven by Usman lost control, hitting two officers on official duty.

“This sad occurrence reflects the hazards and risks our officers face daily in protecting lives and managing traffic within the FCT,” Adeh said.

The injured officer is receiving medical attention. The vehicles involved in the accident have been recovered, and the investigation is ongoing.

Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, extended condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased officer and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured personnel.

This incident follows a separate road crash in Lagos State, reported by PUNCH Metro, where three people—including a policeman, a fireman, and a scavenger—lost their lives, highlighting concerns over reckless driving
