The Oyo State government has launched a significant subsidization initiative for various food items, such as bags of rice, vegetable oil, chicken, and other essential staples for its workforce.
The state Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, announced this in a statement delivered to journalists on Sunday in Ibadan.
Oyelade explained that the initiative is part of the state government’s efforts “to cushion the effects of current economic challenges on workers and ensure a more comfortable December festive season.”
“The intervention aligns with the welfare-driven agenda of the state government, aimed at improving the standard of living of workers and promoting food affordability,” he added.
According to him, this initiative, led by the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS), will provide subsidized food items valued at N100 million to civil and public servants across the state.
“The initiative is strictly for state workers who have expressed interest, and beneficiaries must be accurately documented by their respective ministries’ accounting sections to guarantee a smooth and transparent process.”
“Payment for the commodities will be made through salary deductions beginning in February 2026. The arrangement is designed to ease the financial burden on workers while ensuring accountability,” the commissioner stated.
In related news, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reaffirmed that his administration will persist in enhancing the state’s security infrastructure to safeguard the lives and properties of residents.
Makinde, represented by Deputy Governor Barr. Bayo Lawal, made this statement on Friday during the commissioning of the Moniya Area Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force, which was reconstructed by the Akinyele Local Government.
The governor also inaugurated two motorized boreholes situated at the Rehabilitation Centre for the Physically Challenged in Isabiyi Ward 6 and Akuro Community, Olorisaoko, Ward 11.
He emphasized that the construction of the new Area Command of the Nigeria Police in Moniya is part of the government’s commitment to securing lives and properties across the state.
He assured that the government is prepared to proactively address security challenges. Governor Makinde highlighted that Moniya, along with Akinyele Local Government, is rapidly becoming a hub of attraction, propelled by significant urban expansion driven by several key infrastructure development projects of the state government, including the ongoing Circular Road, the Ilutuntun Business District, and the Dry Port, among others.
He noted that these initiatives have consistently attracted more people to the council, necessitating an expansion of the government’s capacity to ensure the safety of its citizens—a commitment reiterated by the construction of the Police Area Command Headquarters in Moniya.”
