MTN Nigeria says it recorded 9,218 fibre cuts across the country in 2025, resulting in widespread network disruptions.
The telecommunications company said the incidents, recorded as of November 30, 2025, also involved theft and vandalism affecting 211 network sites nationwide, disrupting essential services relied on by customers.
MTN disclosed that despite the challenges, it resolved 1,624,263 customer complaints across all service channels during the period and grew its subscriber base to 85 million by September 2025.
Karl Toriola, chief executive officer of MTN Nigeria, acknowledged the company’s responsibility for network performance, noting that while progress has been made, there is still more work to be done to improve customer experience.
He said MTN remains committed to putting customers at the centre of its operations as it marks its 25th anniversary in 2026, adding that the company will continue to listen to customers and respond swiftly to service issues.
In February 2025, the federal ministry of works and the federal ministry of communications, innovation and digital economy set up a joint standing committee to address the rising cases of fibre optic cable cuts across the country.
