President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will deliver a nationwide broadcast on Wednesday, October 1, to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, the presidency announced.
In a statement released Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the broadcast is scheduled to go live at 7 a.m., with all television, radio, and electronic media outlets urged to join the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).
Independence Day addresses have long served as a platform for Nigerian presidents to review national progress, outline policy priorities, and reaffirm commitments to unity and development.
This year, President Tinubu’s speech is expected to highlight key achievements in economic recovery, security initiatives, and ongoing infrastructure projects, while reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since gaining independence from Britain on October 1, 1960.
As Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria marks the day annually with official ceremonies, parades, and presidential addresses, celebrating the country’s history and aspirations for the future.
