Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after a diplomatic mission that took him from the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York to high-level meetings in Germany, where he represented President Bola Tinubu.
His aircraft touched down at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the early hours of Thursday. Senior government officials were on ground to receive him.
At the UNGA, Shettima delivered Nigeria’s national address, pressing for sweeping reforms of the global body and reaffirming Africa’s right to control its estimated $700 billion in mineral resources. He also spotlighted Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition agenda, urging global investors to seize opportunities in the sector.
In New York, he held strategic meetings with international partners, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who applauded Nigeria’s push for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. The vice president also strengthened ties with the United Kingdom, the Gates Foundation, and the Nigerian diaspora, assuring them of active inclusion in the Tinubu administration’s policies.
Shettima later proceeded to Germany for further strategic engagements before returning home to Nigeria.
