Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo (popularly called Sunday Igboho), has appealed to the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to intervene in his lingering face-off with the Federal Government, particularly over the freezing of his bank accounts.
Igboho, accompanied by loyal supporters, visited the monarch at his Bodija residence in Ibadan on Monday, where they held a closed-door meeting that lasted about 40 minutes.
In a statement issued by his media office on Wednesday, Igboho disclosed that their discussion covered issues of insecurity in the South-West, bandit attacks in Kwara State, and his unresolved challenges with the Federal Government.
“The Olubadan assured that he would step in to address some of the hurdles I face, especially the embargo on my accounts and the ‘wanted’ tag placed on me by the government,” the statement noted.
It will be recalled that in 2021, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), supported by soldiers, stormed Igboho’s residence in Soka, Ibadan. The raid left two aides dead while 13 others were arrested, with Igboho accused of stockpiling arms.
During his courtesy visit, Igboho congratulated Ladoja on his elevation as Olubadan, describing him as a leader widely respected across Ibadanland and Yorubaland. He also expressed his willingness to collaborate with government authorities to enhance security in the region.
“Oba Ladoja has always been a father figure to me, even from his days as governor. His reign will surely promote peace, unity, and development across Yorubaland,” Igboho said.
