The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit challenging the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Senate.
Justice James Omotosho, in a ruling on Friday, held that the applicants, led by Ovavu Illiyasu and nine others, lacked the legal authority (locus standi) to question the decision of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Red Chamber.
The plaintiffs had sought to overturn the six-month suspension imposed on the Kogi Central lawmaker for alleged misconduct. They argued that her suspension would deny their Senatorial District adequate representation and urged the court to declare the action invalid.
However, Justice Omotosho ruled that since the plaintiffs were not directly affected in law, they could not bring the action before the court. Consequently, he dismissed the case for lack of merit.
