The Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has ordered the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector-General of Police to suspend their ongoing enforcement of tinted glass permits for vehicle owners.
The interim ruling came on Friday as the court began hearing in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025, filed by legal practitioner John Aikpokpo-Martins against the IGP and the Police Force.
Justice directed the police to maintain the status quo and refrain from further enforcement, stressing that judicial processes must be respected until the matter is fully determined.
Aikpokpo-Martins, who initiated the case, is challenging the legality of the renewed tinted permit enforcement regime. His legal team, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kunle Edun, described the ruling as “a significant victory for the rule of law” pending the court’s substantive judgment.
Edun told reporters that the order provides temporary relief for motorists while the court deliberates on the constitutional and legal questions raised.
Further proceedings in the case are expected in the coming weeks.
