The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for the November 8 Anambra election, Mr. John Nwosu, has pledged to dismantle the current revenue collection structure in the state and abolish multiple taxation through a technology-driven governance model.
Speaking during an online town hall meeting with members of the Anambra State Association (ASA) USA, Nwosu decried the activities of revenue agents whom he described as “street terrorists,” vowing to remove them from the roads on his first day in office.
“Multiple taxation has become a burden to businesses and transporters in Anambra. My administration will end it by introducing a full E-Government revenue system that eliminates the need for physical tax enforcement,” he assured.
He explained that the proposed E-transport and digital revenue platforms will not only stop harassment but also curb corruption, ensure transparency, and boost government efficiency.
Nwosu, an ICT expert, emphasized that his government would use innovation to simplify tax administration and improve compliance. “Anyone registered under our E-transport system will operate freely without intimidation. We will remove all enforcers from the streets—100 per cent,” he declared.
On inter-state taxation challenges faced by commercial transporters, Nwosu said he would work with the South-East Governors Forum to introduce a computerized sticker system, similar to the one in use in the South-West. The initiative, he noted, will prevent multiple levies across state boundaries.
“It will work in such a way that 50 per cent of the tariff goes to Anambra, while the remaining 50 per cent will be shared among other participating states. The sticker will feature a digital verification system that can be authenticated via smartphone,” he explained.
He further disclosed plans to engage diaspora professionals and consultants in executing his vision for a modern, technology-driven Anambra State.
