The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has released a list of 203 tertiary institutions that failed to upload their students’ data onto its Student Loan Application System (SLAS) for the ongoing 2024/2025 student loan exercise.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Fund’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND announced a 48-hour extension of its data submission portal to allow non-compliant institutions to update their records.
According to the statement, the portal will reopen from 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2025, to 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
“Institutions are strongly advised to make full use of this final opportunity. Failure to complete the verification process within the stipulated period will result in forfeiture of participation in the current loan cycle, thereby disadvantaging their students,” the statement read.
The Legalobserver reports that tertiary institutions are mandated to upload verified student information to enable eligible applicants access federal education loans.
NELFUND reiterated that the measure is aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in the implementation of the loan scheme, which has already benefitted over 510,000 students, with ₦99.5 billion disbursed in loans and ₦44.7 billion as allowances, according to President Bola Tinubu.
Among the defaulting institutions are the University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University, Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, Lagos State University, University of Ilorin, Federal University of Technology Owerri, Kaduna Polytechnic, Auchi Polytechnic, and Obafemi Awolowo University.
The full list includes federal, state, and private institutions across the country, totalling 203.
