Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command successfully thwarted a planned kidnapping and armed attack in Byazhin Forest, Abuja. The operation, conducted on October 10, 2025, resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with a defaced serial number, a magazine, and thirty rounds of live 7.6mm ammunition.
This intervention followed actionable intelligence received from the Technical Intelligence Unit of the Force Headquarters, revealing that a notorious bandit leader known as Idrisa, alias “Mai Duna,” intended to launch coordinated attacks on villages around Byazhin Forest.
In response, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit deployed tactical teams and set up an ambush along the suspected routes.At approximately 1:00 a.m. on October 11, police operatives spotted two groups of heavily armed bandits advancing and engaged them in a fierce gun battle lasting about twenty minutes.
Despite intense resistance, the police overpowered the assailants, who retreated injured into the forest. Reinforcements from nearby Police and Military units joined the operation, securing the area and blocking all escape routes.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, commended the officers for their bravery and professionalism, noting that their prompt action prevented a significant security breach within the Federal Capital Territory. He directed medical facilities across the FCT and neighboring states to report anyone with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station and urged residents to remain vigilant by providing timely information to assist law enforcement efforts.
