The Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Mr. Taye Olayinka, has criticised former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his recent remarks about the poor state of public schools in Abuja.
Obi had, during a visit to LEA Primary School in Kuje, described the deplorable state of public schools as a “national disgrace.”
Responding, Olayinka said the FCT Administration under Wike is not being managed like the “beer parlour-style government” Obi allegedly operated in Anambra State. He stated that unlike Obi’s administration, the current FCTA is focused on tangible, measurable development across all sectors.
According to Olayinka, the Wike-led administration has embarked on 73 school renovation projects across the six area councils, with 21 already completed, as part of efforts to revamp education in the territory. He added that a total of 102 contracts have been awarded to upgrade learning facilities in the FCT.
Olayinka challenged Obi to disclose how many schools he built or renovated during his eight-year tenure as Anambra governor. He accused the former governor of withholding state funds in private bank accounts rather than investing in education, healthcare, and road infrastructure — policies he said left lasting damage on Anambra’s development.
He further mocked Obi’s claim that he could transform Nigeria in four years, arguing that “someone who could not transform Anambra in eight years cannot realistically promise a national transformation.”
Describing Obi as an “internally displaced politician”, Olayinka said the former governor now relies on media attention to remain politically relevant. He questioned Obi’s 2027 ambitions, asking rhetorically under which party he plans to contest and whether any party would nominate him again “just because he claims to own one shoe and one wristwatch.”
