Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has described some internet fraudsters, popularly known as “Yahoo boys,” as highly intelligent individuals who only need proper guidance and redirection.
Speaking in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Saturday, Obi said that many of these young Nigerians possess creativity and courage that, if properly harnessed, could drive innovation and contribute to national development.
He emphasized that while money is important, genuine wealth is built on integrity, character, and a sense of purpose. According to him, true wealth should uplift both individuals and society by promoting education, reducing poverty, and creating opportunities for people to live dignified lives.
“Some of our so-called Yahoo boys are geniuses who need redirection, not condemnation,” Obi stated. “Their creativity and courage, if properly guided, can drive innovation and national development. Real wealth uplifts both the individual and society, promotes education, reduces poverty, and creates opportunities for others to live dignified lives.”
