Four residents of Ogun State, including one man and three women, have died, while three others sustained injuries following a road accident along Atan-Owode Road on Monday morning.
According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. when a minibus rammed into a stationary truck loaded with cement. The truck reportedly developed a mechanical fault and was left on the road without any warning or caution signs.
“The vehicles involved were a white Sinotruck with no number plate and a Suzuki minibus bearing registration number KTU 874 YJ,” Akinbiyi explained.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that the minibus collided with the broken-down truck from behind, resulting in fatalities. The victims included one adult male, two adult females, and one teenage female. Three other passengers sustained injuries and were promptly transported to Owode General Hospital for medical attention.
TRACE operatives were deployed to restore traffic flow, which was initially disrupted but has since returned to normal. The police have moved the vehicles for further investigation, and the deceased were taken away by their families.
Akinbiyi further detailed: “A total of eleven people were involved, comprising nine females and two males. While four died, three sustained injuries and received medical care. TRACE officers ensured traffic management along the corridor, while the police handled the removal of the vehicles and the deceased.”
Authorities are investigating the incident to determine all contributing factors and prevent future occurrences.
