In a fierce gun battle between Nigerian Army troops and terrorists locally referred to as bandits, 19 attackers were killed while two soldiers and a local vigilante lost their lives. The encounter unfolded on November 1st, 2025, in the Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, specifically around Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse.
The 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, supported by other security agencies, acted swiftly after receiving a tip-off about impending bandit movements. The attackers arrived on motorcycles but were aggressively repelled following a heavy exchange of gunfire. According to a statement signed by Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 3 Brigade, “Own troops deployed at Tsaure came in contact with the bandits which led to exchange of fire where own troops successfully pursued the bandits and recovered several motorcycles and 2 mobile phones from the criminals.”
The confrontation resulted in the neutralization of 19 bandits. Sadly, two gallant soldiers and one local vigilante paid the supreme sacrifice during the operation. The military is continuing operations in the general area to protect vulnerable communities frequently targeted by cattle rustlers and bandits.
The Commander of the 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, assured law-abiding citizens of the commitment of the Nigerian Army to maintaining peace and security in Kano State. He emphasized that efforts would continue in collaboration with sister services and security agencies to safeguard the residents. The Army also urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
