The US Congress has introduced a new bill aimed at intensifying efforts against suspected terrorist groups in Nigeria. The proposed legislation seeks to impose significant sanctions and restrictive measures on individuals and organizations accused of severe violations of religious freedom within the country.
Among those specifically named in the bill are the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, both cited as entities involved in such abuses.
The bill was presented by Smith Christopher, a member of the House of Representatives, who outlined proposed sanctions that include visa bans and asset freezes for members of the implicated groups. Christopher delivered his remarks on Tuesday and praised US President Donald Trump for re-designating Nigeria as a country of particular concern (CPC).
“President Donald J. Trump acted appropriately and decisively to redesignate Nigeria as a CPC and hold the Nigerian government accountable for its complicity in religious persecution by radical Islamists, such as Boko Haram and Fulani terrorists,” Christopher stated.
