The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 71-year-old man, Jeriel Clifford Peter, for allegedly stabbing his 67-year-old wife, Mrs. Miltha Jeriel, to death following a heated argument in Demsa Local Government Area.
According to reports, the tragic incident occurred on November 6, 2025, after a disagreement between the couple escalated into violence at a local beer parlour. Eyewitnesses alleged that the suspect, said to be under the influence of alcohol, attacked his wife with a knife and an axe, inflicting multiple fatal injuries.
Police officers from the Demsa Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, responded swiftly to a distress call and apprehended the suspect at the scene. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Nguroje, stated that the murder weapons — a knife and an axe — were recovered from the scene.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, described the incident as “barbaric and deeply unfortunate,” directing the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yola, to take over the case for a thorough investigation and prosecution.
CP Morris reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on domestic violence and urged residents to seek peaceful means of resolving marital disputes.
“The Command will ensure justice is served and that no offender escapes lawful punishment,” the Commissioner assured.
The case has been transferred to the SCID for further investigation, while the suspect remains in police custody pending arraignment.
