Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has publicly rejected the controversial expulsion of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and other senior figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), faulting the process and warning that key constitutional organs of the party were bypassed.
In a statement released through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang stated that he had “no prior knowledge” of the motion tabled at the party’s national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State — a motion that resulted in the removal of Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and several others.
Governors’ Forum, NEC Not Consulted
Mutfwang clarified that the matter was never deliberated upon by the PDP Governors’ Forum nor presented before the National Executive Committee (NEC), both of which are constitutionally recognised consultation bodies within the party.
According to the governor, the motion — moved by Chief Olabode George and seconded by Bauchi PDP Chairman Samaila Buga — did not reflect his stance, and failed to follow the party’s internal dispute-resolution framework.
‘Expulsion Not Strategic at This Critical Time’
The Plateau Governor cautioned that expelling influential party members at a period marked by internal instability could worsen existing fractures. He instead called for:

A structured, lawful reconciliation process
He emphasised that rebuilding the party requires “collective effort grounded in due process.”
Second Governor to Disassociate from the Decision
Mutfwang’s position echoes that of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who earlier distanced himself from the expulsion moves, raising wider questions about the legitimacy and internal consensus behind the decision taken on the convention floor.
