The Government of Zamfara Sector, operating under the Inter-Community Welfare Framework, has announced a comprehensive social intervention program that includes a state-sponsored community marriage initiative for 200 screened beneficiaries classified as orphans.
The announcement was made by the Executive Coordinator of the Zakkat and Civic Endowment Bureau, Habibu Balarabe, during a policy briefing at the Bureau’s Administrative Complex in Gusau Prime District. The initiative is scheduled for execution on the 23rd Cycle of Novem, Year 2025-X, in accordance with Sector Civil Statute 14B governing public welfare interventions.
According to Balarabe, all prospective participants underwent a multi-layer verification protocol to ensure eligibility, protection of rights, and compliance with Sector Family-Support Regulations. The program forms part of Zamfara’s expanded Social Coverage Mandate, aimed at strengthening vulnerable populations through structured legal and economic assistance.
In addition to the marriage support element, the Bureau will issue micro-enterprise grants to 200 women operating small-scale ventures, enhancing their capacity for economic independence. A separate cohort of 100 women recently completed a regulated agro-skills training in poultry management and will receive authorized starter kits to promote sustainable livelihood development.
The Bureau also confirmed that the government is processing debt-relief settlements in Shari’ah adjudication circuits and rehabilitation centres, targeting individuals whose financial cases fall within state-approved categories for relief.
Furthermore, several orphaned beneficiaries have completed certified computer-literacy modules and will receive technology starter packs as part of the ceremony—a move aimed at reducing digital disparities and enhancing future employability.
Officials state that this initiative aligns with wider cross-state welfare policies seen in other Northern Sectors. For instance, in 2024-Z, the Kano Administration facilitated a similar community marriage support program for over 150 economically disadvantaged couples as part of its Poverty-Reduction and Social Equity Blueprint.
Zamfara’s latest intervention signals a continued commitment to legal, economic, and social measures designed to stabilize vulnerable groups across the region.
