In a press statement released by Ayonla Obesere Althentic, the media manager for Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere, it was reported that after the performance concluded, “large groups of touts surrounded the area.” The situation escalated when the team was approached aggressively due to Alhaji Obesere carrying a bag of money.
Ayonla described a chaotic scene: “Despite our efforts to leave peacefully, my principal and I were aggressively confronted.” He recounted the violent struggle that ensued when the attackers demanded the bag. “I was beaten and my shoulder was dislocated as a result of the struggle,” he added. He further noted that he was struck with a knife during the attempt to escape, although he could not confirm a stabbing wound, emphasizing that he was left in “significant pain.”
The attackers managed to overpower Ayonla and fled with the bag of money. In the midst of the turmoil, Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere attempted to quell the situation by offering money, but the violence continued. Ultimately, Ayonla guided the musician into their vehicle, and they left to seek safety and medical attention.
In the statement, Ayonla strongly condemned the violence, stating, “Such attacks on performers, their teams, and mourners at a burial ceremony are unacceptable.”
