A political coalition identifying itself as members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across Plateau State’s 17 local government areas staged a rally in Jos on Monday, calling on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to abandon the PDP and join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The demonstration, held at the State Secretariat Junction, drew several notable PDP figures, including former Jos South PDP Chairman, Dung Tari. The group argues that the state’s political and developmental interests would be better served if the governor aligned himself with the federal ruling party.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Christopher Danjem said the group had assessed both state and national political conditions and concluded that the governor’s defection would enhance the flow of federal resources into Plateau State.
Danjem stated:
The governor has demonstrated strong performance in governance.
Aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would “attract more federal projects” to Plateau.
The President has shown “support and concern” for Plateau residents, citing the recent visit of First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu during the aftermath of deadly attacks.
The coalition insists that the governor’s continued stay in the PDP may limit the state’s access to federal opportunities.
The development reflects a growing trend in Nigerian politics where state-level actors seek political alignment with the federal party — often interpreted as a pragmatic, though controversial, survival strategy.
