The Accord Party has openly invited Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to run for a second term on its platform, declaring itself a “stable and sanitised” alternative with no internal factions or political godfathers as he searches for a new political home ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Adeleke resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in November, blaming his decision on the protracted leadership crisis rocking the party at the national level, and has yet to disclose which party he will join next.
Speaking after the governor’s exit, Dele Oladeji, Accord’s chairman in Lagos, said the party was ready to receive Adeleke if he chooses to pursue his second term bid under its banner. “In Accord, we are ready for him. Whenever he decides to step in, we are set to receive him,” Oladeji told the News Agency of Nigeria, describing the party as “a dependable and organised structure for any aspirant seeking a stable platform.”
Oladeji stressed that Accord distinguishes itself by being free of internal rifts and external “godfather” control, positioning this as a key attraction for a sitting governor emerging from a crisis‑ridden party. “Accord is a very stable and sanitised political platform. We have no factions and no godfathers,” he said, adding that “any candidate who joins us between now and 2027 is sure of a peaceful and dependable structure.”
He further described Accord as the “most suitable” platform for any serious political contender at this time, underscoring his confidence that the party could guarantee Adeleke a calm atmosphere to seek re‑election.
While Oladeji and other Accord figures have gone public with their courtship, party leaders in Osun have also signalled readiness to accommodate the governor. The state chairman, Victor Akande, previously said Adeleke would receive a waiver to contest on Accord’s ticket if he joins, though he noted that no formal negotiations had been held and much of the talk remained “rumour”.
Meanwhile, Adeleke’s media handlers have indicated that the governor will unveil his new party before December 13, as political calculations intensify ahead of the 8 August 2026 Osun governorship poll set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
For now, Accord’s overtures highlight how parties are jostling to capitalise on Adeleke’s departure from the PDP, with the governor weighing his options between platforms like Accord and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as he plots his next political move.
